The Fish-photoCAT project, involving units from Italy, Tunisia and Egypt, aims at investigating the efficiency of a smart purification system to improve water quality, fish production and environmental sustainability in aquaculture systems, through the remediation of nitrogen containing compounds in water and the biocidal action of a titanium dioxide (TiO2)-based photocatalytic treatment.

This innovation will lead to a “green” aquaculture for a safe and healthy fish production and it will be applied to two important aquaculture species: Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and Gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) in order to test its efficiency in freshwater and seawater systems.
